Carrington Lane (Sarah Paulson) is officially spiraling.
The episode opens with her stretched out on her therapist’s couch, unraveling at a level that feels dangerous even for her. The closer she gets to her ultimate goal of destroying the women she blames for her misery, the more feral she becomes. She insists that her pain will never fade and that they are responsible for every damaged part of her. Her fantasies involve watching them die in gruesome ways. She even turns on her therapist, unleashing a volcanic fury that sends the session into emotional freefall.
Elsewhere, Liberty Ronson (Naomi Watts) is preparing for her wedding, clinging to pockets of joy amid the chaos of the firm. Her peace is shattered when Carr appears uninvited. Carr arrives with gifts, flattery, and a calculated plan to win Liberty’s vote for partner. She appeals to Liberty’s insecurities as an outsider, quietly planting seeds of division. It works. Liberty begins absorbing Carr’s poison without realizing she has swallowed the hook.
As Liberty chooses her maid of honor, all three partners want the role. Each believes they are the obvious choice. Once Liberty reveals her bridal gowns, the critiques roll in immediately and none of her friends like them. Carr’s strategy scores another point. Liberty explodes, storms out, and finds comfort with the last person she should be talking to. Carr folds her into a faux British embrace, reassuring her that the ladies do love her but also reminding her that she has overcome their shortcomings. Carr is pouring poison that tastes like sugar. Liberty is too vulnerable to notice.
Back at the office, Emerald Greene (Niecy Nash-Betts) brings Allura Grant (Kim Kardashian) financial information on Liberty’s fiancé, Dr. Reggie Ramirez (O-T Fagbenle). They discover he is catastrophically leveraged and keeping major secrets. Once Dina Standish (Glenn Close) is looped in, she is unequivocal. Liberty must not move forward with the wedding without knowing the truth.
Meanwhile, the firm officially names Dina a partner in an advisory capacity and turns its attention to adding a full-time partner. A secret ballot is cast. Carr’s candidacy splits the vote dead even. A second vote is scheduled in forty-eight hours.
Carr’s revenge tour continues with a surprise visit to Dina. She arrives for a lunch date Dina forgot about. They share a tense meal on site. Dina reveals the vote was tied and Carr instantly wants to know who the holdout was. Dina tells her plainly that she voted against her. She sees what Carr is doing and will not let her infect the firm. Dina says she feels pity for her, nothing more. Carr shatters. She throws a glass of wine in Dina’s face and hisses, “A disappointment never disappoints.” The one woman whose approval she craved most has shut the door. Carr collapses into tears, then gathers herself and begins recalculating her master plan. Dina is now officially a target.
Allura takes the news about Reggie to Liberty, who is blindsided and heartbroken.
Still in full attack mode, Carr visits Allura next. She approaches carefully and uses Dina as bait. She tells Allura that Dina is in steep mental decline, pointing to her grieving process with Doug’s body as proof. Carr then produces an email from Dina that appears threatening or unstable. Allura takes the bait. Carr suggests they must put up a united front for the firm and views the concern as a rallying point.
Liberty confronts Reggie later, calling off the wedding as soon as she realizes the magnitude of the risk he poses to her future. Already wounded by past relationships, this revelation pushes her over the edge. She returns his ring. Reggie leaves it on her desk and tells her she will remain in his life whether she wants to or not.
What follows is the most devastating trap of the season. All of the women, including Carr, stage an intervention for Dina. They present printed emails showing Dina speaking to Doug as if he were still alive. Carr uses the evidence to bolster her story about Dina’s instability. Dina pushes back, insisting Carr is manipulating them. What should have been a moment of solidarity becomes a battle of perception. Carr produces her housekeeper, Esperanza, who claims that on the night Dina smashed her dishes, Dina also choked her. It is a complete fabrication, and Carr knows it. The others, shockingly, do not.
Dina watches each of the women believe Carr’s lies. The heartbreak is palpable. Then the final blow lands. Detectives arrive to arrest Dina for the murder of Lloyd Walton. Carr has taken down her idol and cleared the path for her ascension.
Final Thoughts
In a twist that has been simmering since the pilot, Carrington Lane finally gets everything she wanted, though it arrives in the most nightmarish and technically plausible way possible. She spent the entire episode poisoning relationships, exploiting insecurities, engineering confrontations, and weaponizing emotional wounds. By the end, the friends she sought to destroy have handed her victory on a plate.
The larger question looms. Will the ladies finally connect the dots in the finale or has Glenn Close requested an exit from the series and the writers crafted this storyline as her character’s departure? It is almost impossible to believe that after everything they have endured together, none of them would question how neatly this all unfolded.
Carr’s pain is bottomless. Watching her carry it is disturbing and compelling. Watching others fall for her traps is heartbreaking.
Everything now rests on the finale. The question is not whether Carr will be exposed. The question is whether anyone she has manipulated will be strong enough to face the truth.
