About the Series
Diarra From Detroit is an American mystery dark comedy-drama television series created by Diarra Kilpatrick, who also stars in the title role and serves as executive producer alongside Kenya Barris. The series follows Diarra Brickland, a recently divorced Detroit schoolteacher whose determination to find a man who seemingly ghosted her after a promising Tinder date unexpectedly pulls her into a dangerous mystery tied to Detroit’s criminal underworld.
Rather than following the conventions of a traditional detective story, Diarra From Detroit blends razor-sharp comedy, romantic tension, psychological intrigue, and crime noir into a uniquely original series anchored by Kilpatrick’s charismatic performance and an authentic sense of place.
The series premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Festival before debuting on BET+ on March 21, 2024, earning widespread critical acclaim for its originality, writing, performances, and fresh take on genre storytelling.
Following the closure of BET+, the series was renewed for a second season and moved to Paramount+, where Season Two premiered on July 29, 2026.
