She confronts her suspected thief.
Aja may not call herself a private investigator, but apparently Diarra’s detective fever is contagious.
Ron and Erma Are Definitely Connected

So she establishes the order of operations.
First: get Chris out of jail.
Then: find the treasure.
For Diarra, that’s practically personal growth.
Their pursuit of Ron eventually leads them to a garden party, where Diarra instead finds herself face-to-face with Erma.

Later, Diarra meets Royce at Tommy’s Gun.
Officially, it’s a date.
Unofficially, Hood Nancy Drew is working.
She needs intelligence on Erma, and Royce happily supplies it, giving Diarra the scandalous history behind the woman who has managed to remain one move ahead of her.
But the evening has another purpose.
Diarra has developed a new plan for reaching the treasure beneath Trinity Rose Baptist Church.
She calls it:
The Pastor Trap.
Because apparently Michigan Jones has now entered her romantic-comedy phase.

The obstacle beneath Trinity Rose isn’t the wall.
It’s access.
Diarra believes the easiest solution is getting the pastor and his ex-wife Keke back together, thereby restoring the congregation and creating the circumstances they need to return to the church.
At Tommy’s Gun, everyone participates in “Crash & Yearn,” a public dating game.
The objective is psychological matchmaking.
Plant ideas.
Create sparks.
“Inception” Keke into reconsidering her ex-husband.
It’s ridiculous.
It also works.
But somewhere during Diarra’s attempt to manipulate someone else’s love life, Royce turns the game back on her.
He gets real.
Her defenses crack.
For a moment, all the emotional confusion surrounding Chris falls away.

The question hangs there while Royce reminds Diarra of a relationship and history that existed long before her latest mystery swallowed her life.
