“Greyhounds’ Day Off” opens with two familiar faces, Trent Crimm and former Richmond psychologist Dr. Sharon Fieldstone, together on Trent’s podcast as Sharon promotes her new book.
Their conversation provides something more valuable than nostalgia. It becomes a running commentary on the challenge facing Ted and his coaching staff.
Ted is discovering that the Lady Greyhounds have divided themselves into cliques. They wear the same badge and occupy the same locker room, but psychologically they remain separate groups.
Even getting into that locker room presents Ted with a challenge until Alice Chilton comes to his rescue.
At first, Ted approaches the problem in his customary fashion. His postgame speech is full of references and homespun philosophy, but the writers use the cultural distance between Harry Potter and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off to make a larger point about the women standing in front of him. They don’t simply possess different personalities. They don’t necessarily speak the same cultural language.
Ted has inherited a team, but he hasn’t created one yet.
Trent and Sharon essentially become the episode’s Greek chorus, verbalizing the psychological work Ted is trying to accomplish on the other side of Richmond.

In a room filled with the expected corporate language, Zelda immediately distinguishes herself. Her irreverent, cheeky presentation fascinates Keeley and eventually catches Rebecca’s attention as well.
Zelda’s most provocative advice is simple: never underestimate the power of anger as fuel.
It’s an interesting proposition for Rebecca because anger once defined her relationship with AFC Richmond. She originally purchased the club intending to destroy the thing her former husband loved most. Over time, Richmond transformed that anger into purpose.
Now Zelda represents another version of that philosophy. Anger does not necessarily have to consume you. Properly directed, it can propel you.
However, when Keeley encourages Rebecca to pursue a meeting with Zelda, Rebecca initially judges the billionaire according to what she knows about her past. Keeley pushes back, creating a small but meaningful fracture between the friends.
Their reconciliation comes privately inside the stadium. Keeley apologizes, but she also gives Rebecca something much more important when she explains that Rebecca is the reason she loves football.
That admission reframes Rebecca’s entire journey. She may be worried about whether the Lady Greyhounds can financially survive, but Keeley reminds her that leadership leaves fingerprints on people long before the balance sheet reveals the result.
That makes Rebecca’s journey another important thread in the Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 4 Recap, as Richmond’s future increasingly depends on what she is willing to risk.
Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 4 Recap: Trivia Night Becomes Team Building
Ted eventually realizes that another conventional practice isn’t going to solve his problem.
After tensions erupt into a fight among the players, he cancels training and orders everyone to trivia night instead.
The women aren’t thrilled.
That’s precisely the point.
Ted removes them from the environment where their roles are clearly defined. On the pitch, everyone knows her position. At trivia night, striker, goalkeeper, defender and substitute matter considerably less.
The awkwardness follows them into the pub, but gradually competition begins doing what Ted hoped.
Coach Beard, naturally, believes himself to be the evening’s secret weapon. With Richmond carrying a perfect score into intermission, victory seems almost inevitable. Then Beard spots a flyer in the men’s room.
Whatever he sees rattles him.
When he returns for the second round, both Ted and Alice immediately recognize that their trivia assassin has been psychologically neutralized.
Still, the Lady Greyhounds survive.
The final round pits Richmond against a group of disrespectful, chauvinistic men. When the women win, celebration becomes taunting, taunting becomes confrontation, and confrontation becomes an old-fashioned pub brawl.
Soon, the entire team is arrested.
For almost anyone else, this would constitute a team-building disaster.
For Ted Lasso, it is progress.
Roy Kent Takes Dating Far Too Literally
While Ted tries to bring his team together, Roy Kent is trying to figure out whether he and Keeley belong together again.
Keeley recognizes that Roy has changed. He’s listening more. He’s more patient. Most importantly, he’s making it increasingly obvious that he wants another chance with her.
But Keeley isn’t ready simply to resume their relationship.
She tells Roy to date other women first. She wants him to know that returning to her is a choice rather than an emotional reflex.
Roy responds in the most Roy Kent fashion imaginable: he turns dating into an assignment.
One woman after another becomes another box checked on his journey back to Keeley. There is no spark, little curiosity and absolutely no suggestion that Roy has any interest in finding somebody new.
An observant bartender witnesses this romantic conveyor belt and eventually decides to insert herself into the process.
Their encounter becomes considerably more interesting until Roy’s knee gives out while they’re making out.
Even Roy Kent can be defeated by cartilage.
His sister takes him to see an attractive doctor who tells him something Roy has never been particularly good at hearing: slow down.
Naturally, this makes her even more appealing to him.
The comedy disguises an interesting wrinkle. Roy assumes his romantic destination has already been determined. Season 4 may be preparing to ask whether Keeley is actually where his journey ends.

The Lady Greyhounds Finally Become a Team
The pub fight accomplishes what practices, speeches and locker-room conversations couldn’t.

Ted couldn’t have designed a better bonding exercise, although one suspects Richmond’s attorneys might disagree.
Zelda then demonstrates exactly why she has become such an intriguing figure. She arrives and reveals that she has handled the incident, ensuring that Richmond’s pub brawl won’t become tomorrow morning’s scandal.
But there is barely time to celebrate.
Higgins delivers the next challenge.
AFC Richmond has drawn Chelsea, the best women’s team in the country, in the upcoming FA Cup.
Suddenly, the Lady Greyhounds’ newfound unity is going to be tested against elite competition.
Ted has one final assignment before anyone starts worrying about Chelsea. He sends the women back to Millie’s pub to clean up the destruction they caused.
This time, nobody complains.
They return together and proudly restore the place.
That image says more about Richmond’s progress than any inspirational speech could.
Rebecca and Keeley Find Their Way Back
The episode’s central theme isn’t limited to the football team.
Rebecca and Keeley experience their own version of division and reconciliation.
Their disagreement over Zelda exposes how two people who deeply care for each other can still see the same situation differently. More importantly, neither friendship nor loyalty requires constant agreement.
Ultimately, Keeley’s confession about Rebecca’s influence provides the emotional bridge between their perspectives.
Rebecca has spent much of Season 4 wondering whether creating Richmond’s women’s team was the right decision. The financial risks are real, the institutional skepticism is growing and success is anything but guaranteed.
Keeley gives her another measurement.
Impact.
Richmond doesn’t have to win immediately for Rebecca’s decision to matter.
Sometimes building the thing is the victory that makes all the later victories possible.

Sending them back to clean Millie’s pub completes the lesson. Unity means sharing responsibility as readily as sharing celebration.
What does drawing Chelsea mean for Richmond?
Chelsea represents the Lady Greyhounds’ first major measuring stick.
Richmond may have discovered its chemistry, but emotional unity doesn’t automatically create competitive excellence. Facing the country’s best women’s side in the FA Cup will reveal how much work remains.
