Reacher Season 4 Episode 5 Recap Begins With Reacher on the Run

Police order Reacher onto his knees.

He insists he didn’t commit the crime, but nobody is interested in hearing his explanation.

Realizing talking isn’t going to solve the problem, Reacher chooses the alternative.

He shoves two officers into each other and runs.

Reacher escapes the hotel and ducks into a neighboring building with police close behind. Finding himself running out of options, he jumps into a trash chute and manages to reach the street.

Once clear, he calls Tamara.

He’s on the run.

Again.

Tamara has information that makes the situation even worse.

She tells Reacher about the karambits, allowing him to finally connect several pieces of the investigation.

Lila and Emesha have been manipulating him.

And Anna knew exactly who she was dealing with.

Anna Trusted Jacob

Reacher and Tamara realize that Anna probably never intended to keep the thumb drive herself.

She would have sent it to the person she trusted most.

Jacob.

Tamara tells Reacher that she and the others are heading toward Jacob’s house to check the mail.

Reacher promises to meet them.

He doesn’t get very far.

Police surround him again.

This time, Reacher is knocked down and handcuffed.

While Reacher returns to custody, Jacob, Plum, and Teresa arrive at the house and immediately check the mailbox.

Their theory is correct.

Inside is an envelope containing the thumb drive.

But Anna left something else.

A dead phone.

And its access code.

The mystery has just opened another door.

Lila and Emesha Attack

Jacob notices a suspicious car parked at the end of the street.

Then it moves.

Fast.

The vehicle races toward them as Emesha leans from the passenger side and opens fire with an automatic weapon.

Everyone scrambles into Jacob’s car.

He takes off.

Lila and Emesha follow.

What begins as a search for evidence instantly becomes a running gun battle as the attackers pursue them through the streets.

Tamara calls in an emergency and requests police backup.

Then Jacob sees the bridge.

He tells everyone to hold on.

Jacob makes a sharp turn onto it, scraping the guardrail but keeping the vehicle under control.

Lila attempts the same maneuver.

She isn’t as fortunate.

Her vehicle slams into the railing.

The Bridge Becomes a Battleground

Jacob could keep driving.

Instead, he stops.

He decides to block the bridge and prevent Lila and Emesha from escaping.

Plum gets out before Jacob backs the vehicle toward their attackers.

The women emerge and start firing.

Jacob spins his car sideways across the roadway, creating a barricade.

He and Tamara take cover.

With Lila and Emesha closing in, Jacob apologizes to Tamara for getting her trapped.

Then the police arrive.

Officers close both ends of the bridge.

For the first time, Lila and Emesha appear to have nowhere left to go.

So they jump.

Both women leap from the bridge and disappear into the river below.

Jacob searches the water.

Nothing.

Tamara believes the fall probably killed them.

That would make things considerably easier.

Unfortunately, “Bridge” isn’t interested in easy.

Lila and Emesha Survive

The women are very much alive.

Soaking wet after surviving the fall, Lila and Emesha encounter a man in broad daylight.

They attack him.

Slit his throat.

Steal his car.

And continue their mission.

The sequence eliminates any lingering doubt about how dangerous they are.

They aren’t retreating.

They’re regrouping.

Jacob Turns to Uncle Monty

At the Mayfield Police Station, Tamara and Plum meet Lieutenant Muncy Derossa, better known to Jacob as Uncle Monty.

Monty is a longtime family friend who already knows about Anna.

Jacob tells him about Ben.

Monty has information of his own.

News has reached the department about the man Lila and Emesha murdered after escaping from the river.

The situation has grown far beyond anything Jacob can handle through unofficial channels.

Monty tells him to contact the FBI.

Jacob objects.

The government may already be involved in whatever Anna discovered.

Eventually, he agrees.

At least while Monty is standing there.

Once Monty leaves, Jacob changes course.

No FBI.

Instead, the group leaves the station in a police vehicle they are essentially borrowing.

Someone Tries to Kill Reacher in Jail

Back in Philadelphia, Reacher sits alone inside a jail cell.

Then the head CIA operative arrives.

He’s wearing a police uniform.

That tells Reacher almost everything he needs to know.

The operative produces a tranquilizer gun and explains the plan.

Reacher’s death will look like suicide.

He fires.

Reacher catches the dart with a pillow.

Before the operative can reload, Reacher attacks through the bars, grabbing the man’s tie and pulling him forward until his head comes through the opening.

The struggle costs the operative his right ear.

Reacher then retrieves the tranquilizer dart.

And uses it on him.

He takes the man’s phone and keys, opens his cell and walks away.

The conspiracy wanted Reacher dead.

Instead, it has given him more evidence that he’s getting close.

The Thumb Drive Reveals a Photograph

Reacher eventually reunites with Tamara, Jacob, Plum and the others outside a Philadelphia hotel.

They need somewhere private to examine what Anna left behind.

Inside the hotel, Reacher finds a cleaning maid preparing a room. She speaks little English, so he offers her money in exchange for allowing them to use it.

Plum opens the thumb drive.

Everyone expects answers.

They get a photograph.

The old picture shows Sampson, Cahill and General Putra.

There is also another man standing in the background near a whiteboard.

Nobody knows who he is.

The phone provides another lead.

Jacob finds an address with directions to an abandoned restaurant.

They believe it is where Anna was supposed to deliver the thumb drive.

Then they discover something considerably darker.

Ben’s Final Moments

The phone contains a video.

It shows Lila and Emesha torturing Ben’s escort while forcing Ben to watch.

There is another recording.

Tamara stops Jacob from watching it.

He doesn’t need to see any more.

The videos confirm that Anna, Ben and the others were caught inside something far more organized and brutal than anyone initially understood.

Before the group can determine what to do next, another problem appears.

Reacher is on television.

News reports identify him as dangerous and wanted.

The maid sees the report.

And makes a call.

Sampson Recognizes the Photograph

Reacher contacts Sampson and shows him the photograph from Anna’s thumb drive.

Sampson remembers it.

What he doesn’t understand is why Anna considered it important enough to hide.

Then Reacher and Sampson notice the fourth man.

He’s standing in the background beside the whiteboard.

Sampson doesn’t recognize him.

That makes him interesting.

He orders his chief of security, Springfield, to determine the man’s identity.

Before Reacher can investigate further, sirens erupt outside the hotel.

The police have found him.

Reacher Decides to Get Arrested Again

The group needs to split up.

Jacob wants to go directly to the abandoned restaurant.

Reacher has another idea.

He sends Plum and Jacob to the library to identify the mystery man in the photograph.

Then Reacher announces his own plan.

He’s going to get arrested.

Again.

Tamara exits the elevator pretending to be a Philadelphia police officer.

She places Reacher in handcuffs.

The approaching officers relax.

Problem solved.

Except the maid recognizes what’s happening.

She tells another officer in Spanish that Reacher and Tamara are working together.

The warning is translated.

Police order them to stop.

Tamara responds by speeding away.

The chase is back on.

Reacher and Tamara Escape Across Philadelphia

Tamara and Reacher eventually abandon the police car and continue on foot.

They board a city bus.

For a moment, it appears they may have escaped.

Then a passenger recognizes Reacher from television.

Other passengers block their way.

Reacher could fight his way through them.

He doesn’t.

Instead, he and Tamara escape through the emergency exit window.

They continue running through Philadelphia before hiding beneath a bridge until the police pass.

Then they head toward the location waiting on Anna’s phone.

The abandoned restaurant.

Reacher Reconstructs Ben’s Murder

Reacher and Tamara enter the restaurant and begin searching.

They find Ben’s blood.

Reacher studies the scene.

Piece by piece, he reconstructs what happened before Ben died.

The restaurant isn’t merely another location in the investigation.

It’s a crime scene.

And whatever happened there is directly connected to Anna’s attempt to hide the thumb drive.

Then the investigation stops being theoretical.

Lila appears.

Knife drawn.

Tamara pulls her gun.

But before she can act, Emesha emerges behind them.

She has a knife against Jacob’s throat.

Jacob can only offer two words.

He’s sorry.

The women want the drive.

And now they have leverage.

Reacher Season 4 Episode 5 Ending Explained

What was on Anna’s thumb drive?

Instead of documents or obvious evidence, the drive contains an old photograph showing Sampson, Cahill and General Putra. A mysterious fourth man appears in the background near a whiteboard, and identifying him becomes the investigation’s newest lead.

Why did Anna send the drive to Jacob?

Reacher and Tamara conclude that Anna understood the danger surrounding her and trusted Jacob enough to send him the evidence rather than keep it herself.

Did Lila and Emesha die after jumping from the bridge?

No. They survive the fall, murder a man and steal his vehicle before continuing their pursuit of the thumb drive.

Why is Reacher wanted by the police?

The conspiracy has successfully positioned Reacher as a dangerous fugitive. The effort extends beyond arresting him, with a CIA operative attempting to murder Reacher in custody and make his death appear to be suicide.

Who is the fourth man in the photograph?

The episode doesn’t reveal his identity. Sampson doesn’t recognize him and orders Springfield to investigate, making the mystery man an important new piece of the conspiracy.

How does Reacher Season 4 Episode 5 end?

Reacher and Tamara reach the abandoned restaurant connected to Anna’s phone and discover evidence of what happened to Ben. Lila and Emesha then ambush them, with Emesha holding a knife to Jacob’s throat while demanding the thumb drive.

Final Thoughts

Reacher Season 4 Episode 5 Recap transforms the mystery into a chase.

Reacher isn’t simply investigating anymore.

He’s being hunted.

Lila and Emesha are hunting the thumb drive. The police are hunting Reacher. Someone inside the intelligence apparatus wants him permanently silenced. And the people Reacher has pulled into the investigation are increasingly becoming targets themselves.

“Bridge” also delivers what the season needed at its midpoint: a tangible connection between Anna’s murder and the larger conspiracy.

The photograph may initially appear disappointingly ordinary, but the unidentified man standing quietly in the background could prove more important than anything Reacher has discovered so far.

Then there is Lila and Emesha.

Their survival after jumping from the bridge makes the episode’s message wonderfully simple.

These women aren’t going away.

Neither is Reacher.

By the time Reacher Season 4 Episode 5 Recap reaches its cliffhanger, both sides have finally arrived at the same place.

And Lila and Emesha have Jacob.

The pieces are no longer scattered.

They’re colliding.
