The King of Pop is moonwalking back to the big screen, and this time he’s in the hands of one of Hollywood’s most commanding visual storytellers. Antoine Fuqua, the acclaimed director behind Training Day and Emancipation, brings his signature precision and cinematic muscle to Michael, the long-awaited biopic about the life, artistry, and enduring legacy of Michael Jackson.
The first trailer for Michael has officially dropped, and it’s nothing short of breathtaking. In just over two minutes, Fuqua presents a visual symphony of Jackson’s journey, from his childhood in Gary, Indiana, with The Jackson 5 to his stratospheric solo rise that changed the face of music and entertainment forever. Set to a sweeping orchestral version of “Man in the Mirror,” the trailer captures the energy, emotion, and innovation that defined the King of Pop’s life.
Leading the film is Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s real-life nephew, who delivers an astonishing transformation. His resemblance is striking, but it’s the spirit he channels that truly stands out. Every movement and every whisper of rhythm feels lived-in and deeply authentic. The trailer shows Jaafar performing some of the most iconic moments of Michael’s career, including the Motown 25 moonwalk, the Thriller video shoot, and his electrifying stage performances, with a quiet reverence that never feels imitative.
Fuqua’s direction elevates the biopic into something more ambitious. Known for his emotional intensity and striking visual style, Fuqua crafts a story that honors the legend while grounding him in humanity. The trailer teases not just the spectacle of Michael’s genius but also the solitude behind the spotlight, revealing glimpses of the man who carried the weight of greatness.
Supported by a screenplay from Oscar-nominated writer John Logan (Gladiator) and produced by Graham King (Bohemian Rhapsody), Michael looks poised to be both a tribute and a cinematic event. The production design, choreography, and cinematography all reflect a commitment to recreating Jackson’s world with precision and passion.
With Fuqua’s command behind the lens and Jaafar Jackson’s uncanny embodiment in front of it, Michael is shaping up to be one of the defining biographical films of the decade.
Michael moonwalks into theaters on April 24, 2026. The conversation starts now.
Watch the trailer. Feel the rhythm. The King lives on.
