Saying Goodbye to Mae

Richmond gathers at the Crown & Anchor for Mae’s repast, with Ted, Beard, Henry, Rebecca, Higgins, and the Lady Greyhounds joining the faithful to remember the woman who became synonymous with the pub.

When the Lady Greyhounds perform a touching song in Mae’s honor, an emotional Henry tells Ted he wishes Mae were still around to help him with his schoolwork. His grief leads to questions about how his grandfather died and whether Ted might also leave him too soon. Ted reassures his son, but later admits to Beard that he wasn’t truthful about his father’s death.

For Ted, mourning Mae becomes connected to a larger question about fatherhood: whether protecting Henry from painful truths is really the same thing as being present for him.

Roy and Keeley Face Their Future

At Roy’s flat, Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 10 Recap shifts toward another kind of change as Keeley’s morning sickness makes their impending parenthood increasingly real. Then Roy receives another life-changing surprise when his agent calls with an offer for a head coaching position. The news immediately sends an overwhelmed Roy to the bathroom.

His anxiety follows him to Richmond, where Nate makes a surprise return and Roy reassembles the Diamond Dogs. Alice joins the conversation as Roy asks how he can avoid messing up his child’s life. Ted, Higgins, Nate, and Beard offer support, but Alice delivers the most important advice: don’t disappear when you feel inadequate.

It’s advice that applies to far more than Roy.

One Final Match at Nelson Road

The Lady Greyhounds prepare for their final match against Crystal City with a few complications. Elle is forced to bring her children into the locker room when Ben lets her down, while the team discovers Lizzie is unexpectedly missing.

Any concern about how Richmond supporters will respond disappears when Nelson Road fills for the match. Even members of the original men’s team arrive to support the women, reinforcing how completely the Lady Greyhounds have become part of AFC Richmond.

Keeley initially stays home, but Roy eventually finds her in the locker room and brings her into the stands. He wants her to see what her work helped create, another reminder that Richmond’s transformation belongs to far more than the people on the pitch.

Zelda’s Takeover Falls Apart

While the team plays, Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 10 Recap shifts to Rebecca and Higgins as they face their own showdown. The Milk sisters have sold their shares, apparently giving Zelda the opening she needs to seize control of AFC Richmond.

At the shareholder meeting, Zelda admits she has been buying the shares, explaining that owning Richmond would force powerful men to listen to her. But Rebecca and Higgins have prepared their own surprise. Riddles secretly sold his shares to Rebecca, leaving the two women deadlocked at 49 percent.

Then Mae provides the deciding vote from beyond the grave.

Mae Gives Rebecca One Final Gift

Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 10 Recap gives Mae one final opportunity to protect the club she loved when she leaves her two-percent ownership stake to Rebecca. The shares give Rebecca control of Richmond and defeat Zelda’s takeover attempt.

Mae also leaves the Crown & Anchor to the three familiar patrons who spent years sitting at her bar. Even in death, she ensures that the places she loved remain with people who understand what they mean.

Rebecca responds by forgiving Zelda rather than celebrating her defeat, another sign of how far she has traveled from the woman who once bought Richmond solely to destroy something Rupert loved.

More Goodbyes for Richmond

Mae isn’t the season’s only departure. Roy accepts the head coaching position, initially infuriating Rebecca, who reminds him that Richmond welcomed him after others discarded him. Roy counters that Rebecca’s own advice inspired him to take the chance.

Rebecca eventually understands and tells him Richmond will always welcome him back. Roy and Keeley are now headed toward Chelsea and an entirely new life together.

Rebecca chooses change for herself as well. After acknowledging with Ted that being messy is part of being alive, she surprises Matteijus by proposing marriage. After considering the unexpected offer, he gets down on one knee and accepts.

Ted Finally Tells Henry the Truth

Away from Richmond, Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 10 Recap returns to Ted’s most important decision as he finally tells Henry the truth about his grandfather’s death. He also promises his son that he intends to be more present for his games next season.

The conversation completes the emotional thread that began at Mae’s repast. Ted realizes that being present for Henry doesn’t mean protecting him from every painful truth. It means trusting his son enough to be honest and remaining beside him afterward.

Ted cannot promise that nothing painful will happen. He can promise not to disappear.

Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 10 Ending Explained

Who Controls AFC Richmond?

Rebecca retains control after Mae leaves her two-percent stake in the club. With Rebecca and Zelda previously holding 49 percent each, Mae’s shares give Rebecca the majority she needs to stop Zelda’s takeover.

Who Becomes Manager of the Lady Greyhounds?

Alice becomes the new manager of Richmond’s women’s team, with Ted and a freshly shaven Beard serving as her assistants.

It’s the culmination of Alice’s season-long evolution. Ted never needed her to become another version of him. He needed her to discover how empathy, humor, and trust could strengthen the coach she already was. The finale even reveals that Alice has been messing with Ted’s chair all season, one last glimpse of the personality she has finally allowed everyone else to see.

Final Thoughts

Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 10 Recap finds “The Departing Lass” embracing change rather than resisting it. Mae is gone, but her final acts protect both Richmond and the Crown & Anchor. Roy and Keeley leave for Chelsea and prepare for parenthood. Rebecca regains control of her club and chooses marriage again. Ted gives Henry the honesty and presence his son needs.

And Alice steps forward.

Ted’s greatest accomplishment with the Lady Greyhounds wasn’t teaching Alice to coach like him. It was helping her become comfortable enough to coach like herself. By stepping aside and becoming her assistant, Ted proves that leadership isn’t about making yourself indispensable. It’s about preparing someone else to lead.

Richmond has earned promotion, but almost everything around it has changed. That’s the point of “The Departing Lass.” People leave, families change, new lives begin, and others end.

And AFC Richmond keeps moving forward.
