Reacher Season 4 Episode 3 Recap Begins With Cahill
Reacher, Tamara Green, Jacob Merrick, and Russell Plum return to Plum’s loft following the events of “Cage Fight.”
Reacher tells Plum what happened, including his discovery that Nolan Cahill was aboard the subway when Anna killed herself.
Plum immediately begins digging.
He discovers something significant.
Cahill was Samson’s commanding officer when Samson served in the military in Indonesia.
Suddenly, Cahill’s presence aboard the train looks considerably less coincidental.
Before the group can investigate further, alarms begin sounding.
The CIA agents have arrived.
Then another group appears.
They’re armed.
Everyone watches through Plum’s surveillance monitors as the newcomers suddenly open fire on the CIA personnel, killing them before entering the building.
Whatever war is unfolding around Anna’s secret, somebody just declared open season.
Reacher Gives Them a Signal
Tamara, Jacob, and Plum arm themselves.
Reacher has another idea.
He climbs out the window.
Before leaving, he gives them instructions.
Wait for his signal.
What’s the signal?
Screaming.
Reacher lowers himself one floor and reenters the building behind the assault team as they climb toward Plum’s loft.
The armed men reach the top floor and hesitate outside the door.

Their argument is interrupted by news.
Anna’s car has been found.
Tamara, Jacob, and Plum immediately decide to search the vehicle before the federal agents can get there.

Lila Finally Tells Reacher the Truth
Reacher meets Lila and her associates at a bowling alley.
He doesn’t waste time.
Her story is a lie.
He knows John Samson isn’t her father.
Cornered, Lila finally tells him the truth.
She’s a reporter.
Her investigation isn’t about paternity.
It’s about the United States government’s relationship with General Putra.
According to Lila, members of Delta Force tortured and killed civilians in Indonesia.
One of those victims was her mother.
Lila believes Samson’s history in the country can help expose what happened.
She isn’t searching for a bone marrow donor.
She’s searching for the truth.
The revelation changes the shape of the investigation.

While Reacher deals with Lila, Tamara searches Anna’s recovered vehicle.
She finds something important.
A second security badge.
Before she can properly investigate it, the federal agents arrive.
Jacob slips the badge into his pocket.
Plum immediately points out the obvious problem.
They just stole evidence.
Taking the badge could destroy the chain of custody and make it useless in a criminal prosecution.
Jacob doesn’t care.
From his perspective, the federal agents themselves appear connected to whatever happened to Anna.
Preserving their chain of custody isn’t exactly high on his list of priorities.
Reacher and Lila Cross a Line
Back at the hotel, Reacher tends to injuries sustained during the bowling alley attack.
Lila arrives.
She apologizes for lying to him.
Then she helps clean the wounds on his back.
The apology becomes something else.
A kiss.
Then another.
And then…
Well.
The investigation can wait a few minutes.
The moment also complicates their relationship.

Samson doesn’t believe him.

Nolan Cahill Has One Last Thing to Say
Reacher and Samson track Cahill to a rooftop bar.
He’s having a drink.
They approach.
Cahill sees them coming.
He places his drink down.
Then he says something ominous.
Things always have a way of coming to light.
He turns to Samson.
Tells him he would have made a good president.
And then Nolan Cahill walks off the roof.
Another witness is dead.
Another person connected to Anna has chosen suicide.
And Reacher is left staring at another body without the answers he came to find.
Reacher Season 4 Episode 3 Ending Explained
Before the Reacher Season 4 Episode 3 Recap concludes, “One Small Step” connects several pieces of the mystery while introducing questions that could fundamentally change Reacher’s investigation.
What was Lila lying about?
Lila is not pursuing Samson because she believes he is her biological father. She tells Reacher that she is actually a reporter investigating the U.S. government’s involvement with General Putra. According to Lila, Delta Force personnel tortured and killed people in Indonesia, including her mother.
What does Anna’s second badge reveal?
The badge recovered from Anna’s car provides Level Eight security clearance at another location. The episode doesn’t yet explain precisely what Anna’s position was or why she had that level of access, making her true role one of the season’s biggest unanswered questions.
What is Samson’s connection to General Putra?
