“The Scorpio Ball” brings Hulu’s legal drama back with all the excess, outrageous behavior, and personal grudges that define its world. Between a spectacular fashion showdown, an unlikely romance, and a party that turns into a full-blown brawl, the season premiere reminds us that these women rarely do anything quietly.

All’s Fair streams exclusively on Hulu.

An Unwanted Visitor and an Old Enemy

The All’s Fair Season 2 Episode 1 Recap opens with Allura arriving home for a quiet evening, only to discover an ominous figure watching her through her bathroom window. The following morning, her partners urge the newly divorced attorney to consider private security, but Allura appears more interested in moving forward than living in fear.

Elsewhere, Carrington Lane (Sarah Paulson) receives a surprise visit from Dina (Glenn Close), recently released after spending a week in jail. Still grieving her late husband, Doug, Dina hopes to end their feud and move forward peacefully. Carrington, however, has other plans, openly admitting that destroying Dina’s law firm remains her priority.

When Dina offers forgiveness, Carrington refuses to accept it before delivering a particularly cruel observation about Dina’s inability to raise a child of her own. The insult draws an immediate response as Dina slaps her, bloodying her lip. Carrington has once again gotten exactly what she wanted: a reaction.

Back at the firm, Allura, Liberty Ronson (Naomi Watts), and Emerald Greene (Niecy Nash-Betts) attempt to embrace a fresh start. There’s good news when Milan (Teyana Taylor) announces she’s passed the bar on her first attempt, but Allura has an even bigger announcement. She’s throwing a lavish Scorpio Ball inspired by Elizabeth Taylor, complete with a gown purchased at auction and performances by Bruno Mars and Adele.

New Beginnings, Familiar Problems

The All’s Fair Season 2 Episode 1 Recap introduces Aphrodite Lovesong (Robin Givens), a new client whose husband wants a divorce just short of their tenth anniversary. After years of feeling invisible, Aphrodite faces losing her marriage and potentially her financial security. Fortunately, she insists that she never signed the prenuptial agreement her husband intends to enforce.

Liberty struggles to prove the document’s authenticity until Emerald suggests that Aphrodite’s signature might have been written in invisible ink. Their investigation confirms the theory, and the resulting courtroom maneuver earns Aphrodite half her husband’s fortune. It’s a victory that stretches legal credibility, but in this universe, winning frequently matters more than how you get there.

Meanwhile, Dina is feeling overlooked. Allura’s celebration falls on her birthday, yet she hasn’t been invited. Chase tries to reassure her, but Dina remains convinced she’s never anyone’s first choice. Her mood hardly improves when celebrated astrologer Loni Everlane arrives for a reading, although the appearance of the Tower card catches her attention, suggesting trouble ahead.

Emerald, on the other hand, is enjoying herself while celebrating her sons’ birthdays and getting acquainted with their girlfriends. When the young women admit they can’t afford gowns for Allura’s ball, Emerald offers her glam squad and access to her private collection of wigs, dresses, and jewelry. Nobody does generous extravagance quite like Emerald.

Liberty also has a reason to smile. She’s seeing someone new, a woman named Jamie, and although she’s taking things slowly, Emerald immediately recognizes that something has changed.

Carrington Crashes the Celebration

As the All’s Fair Season 2 Episode 1 Recap approaches its centerpiece, Dina makes another attempt at reconciliation. After attracting the attention of a considerably younger man, she persuades Allura to invite Carrington to the Scorpio Ball. Dina subsequently visits her rival, apologizes for the slap, and extends the invitation herself. Carrington accepts, although anyone expecting her to behave has clearly forgotten who they’re dealing with.

Allura makes a spectacular entrance at the ball, looking every bit the glamorous hostess. Dina soon finds herself distracted by her mysterious admirer, nearly forty years her junior, who leads her into a private room for a dance and an unexpected kiss. For someone convinced she’s always overlooked, the attention is both flattering and unsettling.

Then Carrington arrives with Chase, wearing the exact same Elizabeth Taylor gown as Allura and insisting that hers is the original. It’s an outrageous attempt to steal Allura’s moment, and Carrington makes her intentions clear: she wants her rival’s man, her firm, and whatever dignity she can take along the way.

The evening takes another uncomfortable turn when Liberty arrives with Jamie, introducing her new relationship to her friends. Rather than allow Liberty her happiness, Carrington delivers a vicious insult about her romantic choices, sending her into the bathroom in tears.

Emerald and Milan rush to console her, and suddenly Allura isn’t the only woman with a score to settle.

A Poolside Beatdown and a Deadly Surprise

The All’s Fair Season 2 Episode 1 Recap delivers its most outrageous moment when Carrington pushes one button too many. Emerald, Milan, and Liberty finally lose patience, and their confrontation turns into a chaotic swimming-pool brawl.

Afterward, the women retreat to the bathroom, laughing as they dry themselves off and celebrate finally giving Carrington a taste of her own medicine. Unfortunately, Allura isn’t amused.

Her carefully orchestrated celebration has become a spectacle for all the wrong reasons. Worse, Adele has reportedly left the party after being traumatized by the fight. Allura arrives furious, scolding her friends for ruining what should have been her perfect evening.

But before she can call Adele to apologize, something unexpected happens.

Allura suddenly collapses, her body going limp as her handbag falls to the floor. Moments later, an actual scorpion crawls out, sending the women into a panic as they desperately call for help.

The party is over, and Allura’s life may be hanging in the balance.

Final Thoughts | A Scorpio Ball With a Sting

The All’s Fair Season 2 Episode 1 Recap establishes a familiar but entertaining rhythm for the show’s sophomore season. The legal maneuvering remains wildly exaggerated, the fashion is unapologetically extravagant, and almost every conversation carries the possibility of becoming a full-blown confrontation.

Sarah Paulson continues to have a field day as Carrington, a woman who doesn’t simply want to defeat her enemies but wants them humiliated in the process. Glenn Close brings some needed vulnerability to Dina, whose desire for peace masks a deeper fear of being unwanted. Meanwhile, Niecy Nash-Betts remains one of the show’s most entertaining presences, giving Emerald equal parts glamour, loyalty, and attitude.

Liberty’s developing relationship with Jamie adds an interesting emotional dimension, particularly when Carrington weaponizes that happiness against her. What should have been a moment of personal freedom becomes another reminder of how easily cruelty can invade these women’s lives.

Still, the premiere belongs to Allura, whose elaborate celebration becomes a nightmare. The mysterious watcher from the opening scene and the scorpion emerging from her handbag suggest that something more sinister is unfolding beneath the glamorous surface. Carrington is an obvious suspect, but perhaps too obvious.

All’s Fair isn’t interested in subtlety, and “The Scorpio Ball” makes no apologies for that. It’s messy, frequently ridiculous, and occasionally irresistible, particularly when its formidable ensemble gets the opportunity to trade insults and settle scores.

Allura wanted a night nobody would forget. She certainly got one.

And so it begins.
