After generating positive buzz at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and preparing to play at the Critics’ Week sidebar at Cannes, David Lowery’s outlaw drama, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints is quickly becoming a critic’s darling.
The film, which premiered at Sundance in January, examines the aftermath, where after a crime spree leaves an officer wounded, Bob (Casey Affleck) takes the blame and heads to prison, leaving his girl Ruth (Rooney Mara) behind, and pregnant. Four years later, he breaks out and makes his way to her to see meet the child he’s never seen, but of course, it won’t be easy.
Ain’t Them Bodies Saints has been described as a “searing, romantic crime drama and love story…a wholly engrossing and impressive piece of work that the movie world will be talking about all year long.” The film co-stars Ben Foster, Nate Parker and Keith Carradine.
Ain’t Them Bodies Saints hits theaters on August 16th.
