Reel Reviews | Life

by Joe Barber

Frankly, that’s what the stars, writer and director of this complete disaster should be doing after pushing this junk on a waiting public.

Two Black men (Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence) are framed for murder while picking up a supply of bootleg hooch down South in the 1930’s and spend the next 60 years in a Mississippi prison camp.

Unbelievably, the filmmakers play just about everything for laughs, a terrible mistake. Though Murphy and Lawrence each have a couple of good moments, the overall tone of this ill-conceived loser is way out of line. A better, more thoughtful script would have made Life unique and funny. As it is, it’s barely watchable.
