The studio that has several high-profile projects featuring African-Americans that should be major awards contenders, The Weinstein Company (TWC) has released the new poster for the biopic of the iconic South African freedom fighter, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.
The film explores the Mandela unknown to most of the world – the lover of fast cars and women, the boxing enthusiast and playboy, the skillful lawyer and the gun-toting freedom fighter – an intimate portrait of the making of a modern icon.
The film stars Idris Elba as the famed South African civil rights leader Nelson Mandela and Naomie Harris as Mandela’s wife, Winnie. Based on a screenplay by Bill Nicholson (Sarafina!, Gladiator, Les Miserables), the epic motion picture will celebrate Nelson Mandela’s extraordinary journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his election as President of South Africa.
South African stars Tony Kgoroge, Riaad Moosa, Zolani Mkiva, Jamie Bartlett, Lindiwe Matshikiza, Deon Lotz and Terry Pheto are also featured in the film.
Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom opens in theaters on November 29, 2013.
