Reacher Season 4 Episode 6 Recap Begins With Lila Holding the Cards

“Plum Out of Luck” begins exactly where “Bridge” ended.

Lila wants the thumb drive.

Reacher reaches into his pocket, removes it, and places it on the ground.

She orders him to kick it toward her.

Emesha makes the stakes clear by pressing her blade against Jacob’s neck hard enough to draw blood.

Nobody has much room to maneuver.

Then Russell Plum walks into the restaurant.

He’s staring at his computer and complaining to Jacob about being abandoned at the library.

Nobody answers.

Plum finally looks up.

And realizes he has walked into the worst possible room at the worst possible moment.

A gunshot rings out.

Plum falls.

Reacher Season 4 Episode 6 Recap: The Restaurant Explodes Into Chaos

Before anyone can fully react to Plum being shot, a gas canister crashes through a window.

Smoke begins filling the restaurant.

Four mercenaries storm inside.

Everyone scrambles.

Then the fight begins.

Lila and Emesha use their knives.

Tamara uses her gun.

Reacher uses the weapons he generally prefers.

His fists.

Jacob rushes toward the wounded Plum while everyone else fights through the smoke.

Eventually, the mercenaries are taken down.

But Lila and Emesha disappear into the basement.

Reacher and Tamara follow.

They search the lower level but find nothing.

The women have discovered a delivery elevator leading directly to the street.

Once again, they’re gone.

And they have the thumb drive.

Plum Identifies the Mystery Man

Reacher and Tamara return upstairs.

Plum needs medical attention immediately.

They load him into a car so Jacob can get him to the hospital.

But before leaving, Plum provides one crucial piece of information.

He identified the fourth man in Anna’s photograph.

Leo Ahlquist.

A chemist.

The Reacher Season 4 Episode 6 Recap finally gives a name to the mysterious figure standing behind Sampson, Cahill and General Putra.

Now Reacher has someone new to find.

Jacob Gets Plum to the Hospital

Jacob rushes Plum into the emergency room and tells the staff he has suffered a gunshot wound.

That creates another problem.

Police begin asking questions almost immediately.

Jacob thinks quickly.

He claims they were on Chestnut Street when gunfire erupted and Plum was struck by a stray bullet.

The explanation works.

For now.

The officers hand Plum’s phone to Jacob and tell him they’ll take his statement once Plum has been treated.

Jacob has bought himself time.

He needs to use it.

Leo Ahlquist Leads to Plutus Chemical

Meanwhile, Reacher and Tamara clean themselves up and investigate Ahlquist.

They discover that he’s the CEO of Plutus Chemical, a company manufacturing pest-control sprays.

Its headquarters are in Dover.

Approximately ninety minutes away.

Reacher proposes taking another bus.

Tamara remembers how their last bus ride ended.

Not well.

Reacher has learned from the experience.

This time, he suggests traveling in the cargo hold.

Jack Reacher has many talents.

Luxury travel planning isn’t one of them.

Lila and Emesha Decode the Photograph

Elsewhere, Lila and Emesha have what everyone has been fighting over.

Anna’s thumb drive.

They give it to their computer specialist, who begins analyzing the photograph.

The objective isn’t the people standing in front of the camera.

It’s the whiteboard behind them.

The specialist runs software designed to decode the information written there.

It will take several minutes.

Lila and Emesha are finally close to whatever Anna was trying to protect.

Emesha tells the others that once they leave the following day, they’ll be richer than they ever imagined.

That changes the apparent motive once again.

Whatever is hidden inside Anna’s photograph isn’t merely politically dangerous.

It may be extraordinarily valuable.

Jacob Calls Uncle Monty

Jacob manages to leave the hospital and contacts Monty for help.

Monty has already seen the news.

He’s heading toward Philadelphia.

Eventually, he finds Jacob and puts him in the back of his police vehicle.

Stay down.

Don’t be seen.

Monty asks about the others.

Jacob explains that Reacher and Tamara are gone and Plum is in the hospital.

Then something begins bothering him.

Monty is stalling.

Two police cars arrive.

Jacob immediately understands what is happening.

Monty apologizes.

The situation has become too large for him to handle.

He promises to find Jacob a lawyer and help him work through whatever comes next.

Jacob begs him to reconsider.

The police are involved.

If Monty turns him over, they’ll kill him.

Monty doesn’t listen.

Monty Makes a Terrible Mistake

Detective Docherty takes custody of Jacob.

Roughly.

Only then does Monty begin realizing that Jacob may have been telling the truth.

He asks Docherty to protect him.

Docherty tells the other police unit that he’ll take the long way back to the precinct.

The officers exchange knowing smiles.

Monty has handed Jacob directly to the people he was trying to escape.

The Reacher Season 4 Episode 6 Recap turns trust into one of the episode’s most dangerous liabilities.

Jacob trusted Monty.

Monty trusted the police.

Both assumptions may prove fatal.

Reacher and Tamara Find Leo Ahlquist

Reacher and Tamara arrive at Plutus Chemical.

They don’t bother making an appointment.

A secretary takes them directly to Ahlquist.

They find him frantically destroying hard drives.

Not suspicious at all.

The secretary apologizes for interrupting him.

Ahlquist calmly tells her everything is fine and asks her to get Vance.

Reacher demands answers.

Ahlquist refuses to speak until Vance arrives.

He’s his lawyer.

Reacher explains that waiting for legal counsel is optional.

Getting answers isn’t.

Then Vance arrives.

With a gun.

And several men.

Reacher recognizes him immediately.

Vance is the mercenary who attacked Reacher, Lila and Emesha at the bowling alley.

Another piece clicks into place.

Ahlquist Hired the Mercenaries

Under pressure, Ahlquist finally admits the truth.

He hired the mercenaries.

Their mission was to recover the information Anna possessed.

That explains Vance.

It explains the attacks.

And it connects Plutus Chemical directly to the hunt for Anna’s evidence.

But Ahlquist isn’t interested in explaining why.

He tells Vance to remove Reacher and Tamara from the property.

Then he leaves.

The instruction carries an obvious subtext.

They’re not supposed to come back.

Reacher Meets the Shredder

Reacher and Tamara fight.

Hard.

Reacher manages to force Vance’s hand into the shredder.

It’s exactly as unpleasant as it sounds.

But there are too many men.

Eventually, Reacher and Tamara are overwhelmed.

Both are knocked unconscious.

Vance gives his remaining men simple instructions.

Take them deep into the woods.

Kill them.

This isn’t an interrogation anymore.

There will be no more questions about the thumb drive.

No more attempts to frighten Reacher away.

Someone has decided the safest version of Jack Reacher is a dead one.

Reacher and Tamara Wake Up in a Death Van

Reacher wakes inside a transport van.

Tamara is beside him.

Both are handcuffed.

Plastic lines the interior.

Neither needs much time to understand what that means.

They’re being taken somewhere isolated.

The plastic is there to make cleanup easier.

Tamara and Reacher know what comes next.

There is no obvious escape.

No hidden weapon.

No convenient opening.

For once, Reacher doesn’t have an immediate plan.

So he tells Tamara how they should face whatever is coming.

Heads held high.

No fear.

Jacob Is Running Out of Time

At the same time, Jacob remains trapped with Docherty.

He continues pleading with the detective.

Don’t kill a good cop.

Docherty isn’t interested.

He tells Jacob to shut up.

The implication is unmistakable.

Jacob’s fears about the police weren’t paranoia.

He has been delivered directly into danger.

And nobody knows where he is.

It’s Time to Die

The transport van carrying Reacher and Tamara finally stops.

Silence.

Then the rear doors open.

Two armed men stand outside.

Reacher and Tamara remain handcuffed.

They’re isolated.

Nobody is coming to help.

At least nobody they know about.

One of the gunmen looks at them.

“It’s time to die.”

And “Plum Out of Luck” cuts to black with Reacher and Tamara staring directly at what appears to be their execution.

Reacher Season 4 Episode 6 Ending Explained

Before the Reacher Season 4 Episode 6 Recap concludes, “Plum Out of Luck” finally identifies the mysterious man in Anna’s photograph and exposes another major player behind the hunt for her information.

Who is Leo Ahlquist?

Leo Ahlquist is a chemist and the CEO of Plutus Chemical, a company that manufactures pest-control sprays. Plum identifies him as the mysterious fourth man appearing in Anna’s photograph with Sampson, Cahill and General Putra.

What is hidden in Anna’s photograph?

The episode doesn’t reveal the answer yet. Lila and Emesha’s computer specialist begins processing the photograph to decipher information written on the whiteboard behind the men. Emesha’s comments suggest whatever they expect to uncover could make them extremely wealthy.

Did Ahlquist hire the mercenaries?

Yes. Ahlquist admits that he hired the mercenaries to recover the information Anna possessed. Vance, whom Reacher recognizes from the bowling alley attack, is working for him.

Is Plum dead?

The episode does not establish that Plum dies. He is shot during the restaurant attack but remains alive long enough to identify Leo Ahlquist. Jacob then rushes him to the hospital for treatment. His condition remains uncertain.

Did Monty betray Jacob?

Not deliberately, based on what the episode shows. Monty believes the situation is beyond his ability to handle and turns Jacob over to the police despite Jacob’s warnings. Monty quickly realizes he may have made a serious mistake when he sees how Docherty handles Jacob.

What happens to Reacher and Tamara?

Ahlquist’s mercenaries overpower them at Plutus Chemical. Vance orders his men to take them into the woods and kill them. The episode ends with Reacher and Tamara handcuffed inside a plastic-lined transport van as two armed men prepare to execute them.

Final Thoughts

The Reacher Season 4 Episode 6 Recap does something particularly effective with the conspiracy surrounding Anna Merrick.

It finally gives Reacher answers.

Then it makes those answers incredibly dangerous.

The mystery man is Leo Ahlquist.

Ahlquist hired the mercenaries.

Plutus Chemical is connected to Anna’s information.

And Lila and Emesha now possess the thumb drive.

For six episodes, Reacher has been chasing fragments.

Now the fragments are starting to connect.

But “Plum Out of Luck” is really an episode about misplaced trust.

Jacob trusts Monty.

Monty trusts the police.

Ahlquist trusts Vance to eliminate Reacher.

And everyone hunting Anna’s evidence seems to believe that possession of the thumb drive will finally give them control of the situation.

That last assumption may be the most dangerous one.

The Reacher Season 4 Episode 6 Recap ends with nearly every major character in jeopardy.

Plum is hospitalized with a gunshot wound.

Jacob is trapped with Docherty.

Lila and Emesha are decoding Anna’s photograph.

And Reacher and Tamara are handcuffed in the woods with guns pointed at them.

For most people, “It’s time to die” would be a fairly definitive statement.

For Jack Reacher?

It sounds more like the beginning of Episode 7.
