Paradise Season 2 Episode 2 Recap: Xavier Collins Crashes in the Dark

In the Paradise Season 2 Episode 2 recap, we pick up exactly where Season 1 left off. Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown) is mid-flight, determined to find his wife, Teri Rogers-Collins (Enuka Okuma). But night blindness disorients him. Flying blind, he loses control.

The plane slams into a tree.

Xavier survives, but as he pulls himself free from the wreckage, he dislocates his knee. The injury is not new. It is a painful echo from his past. As he attempts to force it back into place, a young boy appears, covering Xavier’s mouth to keep him from screaming.

The boy robs him and disappears into the woods.

Crawling for cover, Xavier sees a group of men approaching. Just before they discover him, the boy returns with a walking stick and helps him escape. He leads Xavier to a hidden bunker occupied by several children surviving on their own.

Flashbacks: How Xavier Met Teri Rogers-Collins (Enuka Okuma)

“Mayday” intercuts survival with romance.

We flash back to Xavier recovering from surgery in a hospital. In the next bed is Teri Rogers-Collins (Enuka Okuma), focused, guarded, and unimpressed by his charm. Xavier is instantly captivated. Teri makes it clear she has a plan. A career. A future. No husband. No children.

Xavier does not fit into her blueprint.

Back in the present bunker, Xavier pleads with the children to return his belongings. They ignore him. When he finally forces his knee back into place, he passes out from the pain.

Five hours later, he wakes to meet Daniel, the leader of the children. Daniel explains they were on a travel team when the world changed. Everyone else died. They have survived by staying hidden. Daniel returns Xavier’s bag and informs him he has crashed in Arkansas.

Paradise Season 2 Episode 2 Recap: Violence at the Shoreline

The children’s bunker is an abandoned ship.

When Xavier steps outside for air, a stranger confronts him at gunpoint. A brutal struggle follows. Xavier drowns the man in shallow water in full view of the children. It is survival, but it is ugly.

They bury the body in a shallow grave.

Only afterward does Xavier realize he has been stabbed during the fight.

Flashbacks: Love Changes the Plan

In the hospital timeline, Teri receives devastating news. Her surgery has failed. She may not regain her sight.

The same woman who once dismissed Xavier now leans on him for companionship. She allows him into her orbit. He sits beside her, steady and patient.

As she begins rehabilitation, their connection deepens. What began as flirtation becomes foundation. In a quiet, vulnerable moment, Teri kisses Xavier.

Collapse and Hallucination

Back in Arkansas, Xavier passes out from blood loss. When he awakens, the children are gone. His belongings are gone. All that remains is a photograph of Teri and their children, Presley Collins (Aliyah Mastin) and James Collins (Percy Daggs IV).

He limps forward, disoriented and hallucinating. He calls out for help. The wilderness answers with silence.

Annie (Shailene Woodley) Returns

Annie (Shailene Woodley) finds Xavier unconscious. She loads him onto her horse and takes him back to Graceland.

She cleans his wounds. Bandages him. Feeds him. For the first time since the crash, Xavier is safe.

He tells Annie that his wife and children are safe in a bunker in Colorado. He insists he must get to Atlanta to find Teri.

Annie corrects him. They are not going to Atlanta. They are going to Colorado.

When Xavier attempts to stand and argue, he discovers Annie has handcuffed him to the bed.

The rescuer has her own rules.
