Oscar-nominated documentarian, Barry Alexander Brown’s latest is inspired by the true story of the grandson of a Klansman who comes of age in the deep south and eventually joins the Civil Rights Movement.
Son of the South is a biographical historical drama, written and directed by Barry Alexander Brown (The War at Home). Based on Bob Zellner’s autobiography, The Wrong Side of Murder Creek: A White Southerner in the Freedom Movement, the film stars Lucas Till, Lex Scott Davis, Lucy Hale, Jake Abel, Shamier Anderson, Julia Ormond, Brian Dennehy, and Cedric the Entertainer. Frequent collaborator and Oscar-winning screenwriter, Spike Lee serves as an executive producer.
The film had its world premiere at the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) on August 26, 2020. Son of the South will be released on February 5, 2021.
