“Call Waiting” — Peter’s Past, The Broker’s Return, and a Deadly Plane Attack

The Night Agent Season 3 Episode 1 recap opens with a childhood promise that shapes Peter Sutherland’s moral compass.

A childhood promise collides with a global conspiracy in the Season 3 premiere of The Night Agent, as Peter Sutherland races to uncover who financed a devastating plane attack and why The Broker has resurfaced.

The Night Agent S3E1 “Call Waiting” Opening: A Promise That Defines Peter

The episode begins with a flashback set twenty-three years earlier. A young Peter plays quietly with his Legos while his mother takes a tense phone call in the kitchen. Her cancer has spread. She will need further treatment.

Peter overhears enough to understand that something is wrong. After gently sending him back to the other room, she joins him moments later and makes him promise that he will always choose what is right, even when it is difficult. Peter agrees. That vow becomes the emotional foundation of the episode and the moral compass guiding his actions in the present.

The Columbia-Class Submarine Blueprints and a Double Cross

In present day, Peter docks a small boat at a marina to meet a man and woman selling stolen blueprints for the new Columbia-class submarine. He hands over a backpack full of cash in exchange for a tablet containing the classified plans.

Before leaving, Peter asks why they would risk everything for such dangerous work. They claim the government stripped them of everything, so they decided to take something back.

Peter walks away calmly, then signals law enforcement via walkie-talkie. Within seconds, police swarm the pair. The transaction was a setup.

The Night Agent Season 3 Episode 1 Recap: The Plane Attack Explained

Across the world, an African American couple experiences severe turbulence on a nighttime flight over Venezuela. The wife jokes about forgetting her air sickness medication next time. The husband notices a streak of light outside the window but sees nothing more.

Moments later, a missile strikes the plane.

The attack immediately shifts the stakes from espionage to global crisis.

Deputy Director Mosely, The Broker, and a New Case

The following morning at the Jefferson Memorial, Deputy Director Mosely briefs Peter. President Hagan demands answers regarding the plane attack, but Peter remains focused on The Broker, who previously escaped.

Mosely assures him that The Broker had no involvement in either the plane attack or the submarine blueprints. Peter’s primary mission remains unchanged. He must wait for The Broker to make contact so they can expose the secret relationship between The Broker and President Hagan, who has been quietly expanding the Night Agent program.

Before leaving, Mosely assigns Peter a new case. Jay Batra, a FinCEN analyst, is missing. His supervisor has been found shot. Authorities believe Batra fled with sensitive financial documents.

In The Night Agent Season 3 Episode 1 recap, the global stakes expand far beyond Peter’s original mission, shifting from espionage to a financial conspiracy tied to a deadly plane attack.

Istanbul Chase: Jay Batra and Isabel deLeon

Peter tracks Batra to Istanbul, following a lead to a café where employees confirm seeing him. News coverage of the downed plane plays in the background. The café worker mentions Batra headed toward the train station.

At the station, Peter spots Batra placing an envelope in locker number five before narrowly escaping onto a departing train while armed men pursue him.

Peter waits until a young woman retrieves the envelope. He follows her to a hotel bar and introduces himself as Jack, a traveling salesman. She identifies herself as Isabel deLeon, a financial reporter.

Recognizing him from somewhere, Isabel excuses herself. Peter quickly obtains her room number and contacts Catherine. She reports that Batra has a spotless professional record. Peter suspects Isabel received the documents Batra was carrying.

The Soccer Match Setup and Stadium Escape

Searching Isabel’s room, Peter finds only a ticket to a soccer match scheduled for the next day.

At the game, Peter spots the same men from the train station using a tracker to locate Batra. Peter finds Batra meeting with Isabel. After handing her documents, Isabel departs.

Peter warns Batra that he is being hunted. Chaos erupts as the men enter the stadium. Peter helps Batra escape, but Isabel urges Batra to run and disappears behind a secured door.

Outside the stadium, one of the pursuers captures Batra. Peter attacks, knocks the man unconscious, steals the car, and escapes with Batra.

The Financial Trail: SARs, Crypto, and Raul Zapata

During their escape, Batra explains that he discovered suspicious SARs originating from a bank. When he brought the irregularities to his supervisor, the man pulled a gun. The weapon discharged during the struggle.

Peter believes him and reminds him that doing the right thing is rarely easy, echoing the promise from his childhood.

Batra reveals the SARs trace back to an American company funneling money into a cryptocurrency wallet belonging to Raul Zapata. According to Batra, the same company financed the missile attack on the plane.

The Broker Returns

As Peter and Batra approach a helicopter for extraction, Peter receives a call on The Broker’s phone.

Monroe is on the line.

He tells Peter that he has someone Peter wants.
