  4. BARRY FITZGERALD
(“aka” William Joseph Shields) was only actor ever nominated for Best Actor & Best Supporting Actor in the SAME YEAR for the SAME ROLE in 1944. (oscar rules changed after that so it wouldn’t happen again.

    AL PACINO
(“aka” Alfredo James Pacino) like Foxx was nominated for Best Actor & Best Supporting Actor in the SAME YEAR for Different ROLES in 1992.

  7. Not including Barry Fitzgerald, whose Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor nominations for his role in “Going My Way” preceded the rule that an actor or actress cannot receive multiple nominations for the same performance, the only other actor to receive multiple nominations in the same year is Al Pacino for his roles in “The Scent of a Woman” and “Glengarry Glen Ross”.

  8. Barry Fitzgerald – same performance and Al Pacino – different performances. Washington screening.
