23 Years Ago Today: Men in Black II beamed into theaters in 2002. This sci-fi action comedy, the sequel to the blockbuster Men in Black (1997), brought audiences back into the world of covert alien policing based on the Marvel Comics series (and its iconic conspiracy theory roots).
Produced by Columbia Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, and directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, MIIB reunited Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith as the unforgettable Agent K and Agent J. The film also featured Lara Flynn Boyle, Johnny Knoxville, Rosario Dawson, Tony Shalhoub, Rip Torn, and one of Michael Jackson’s last theatrical film cameos before his passing in 2009.
In Men in Black II, the emergence of a dangerous alien threat forces Agent J to bring his former partner K back into the fold, with all the wisecracks, wild alien creatures, and secret gadgets fans loved from the original.
Still stylish, still funny, still keeping the galaxy safe. Men in Black II — a Reel Classic worth revisiting.
