“Outage” Turns the Train Into a Battlefield
By Charles Kirkland Jr.
A desperate uprising derails the hijackers’ carefully constructed plan as Sam races against a ticking clock, forcing a deadly showdown that transforms the entire train into a war zone in Hijack Season 2, Episode 5, “Outage.”
Passengers Revolt as Tension Boils Over
Tensions reach a breaking point as passengers grow increasingly restless. The chaperones quietly debate whether they should beg the hijackers to release the children. A man carrying drugs urges everyone to fight back, while a woman secretly revealed to be one of the killers attempts to calm the crowd and maintain control.
When no one listens, she slips into the middle car and retrieves a walkie-talkie from her bag. Sam spots her and recognizes the device, realizing it matches the radio wired to the bomb. Understanding she is coordinating with someone else, Sam knows he must cut off her communication.
He quickly recruits Otto to kill the lights after one minute, then heads back to the passenger car where the woman is hiding.
Lights Out and Total Chaos
Unaware of how volatile the crowd has become, Sam reenters the car and immediately confronts the drug-carrying passenger demanding answers. Sam attempts to calm him, insisting everything will be over soon.
When the lights suddenly go out, Sam grabs the woman’s bag and heads toward the control car. Before he can escape, the drug-carrying man attacks him with a pipe, knocking him to the floor and declaring the standoff finished.
The passengers tie Sam to a pole, take his keys and radio, and storm the control car. They order Otto to stop the train, and he complies. When they prepare to flee, Sam warns them that bombs are mounted beneath the train and stepping off will trigger an explosion. They confirm he is telling the truth.
With no other option, Sam reveals everything, including the real purpose of the hijacking and the planned exchange involving a high-profile criminal meant to secure their survival.
The Operation Begins to Collapse
Clara informs Hatcher that the train has stopped, and attempts to contact Sam fail. Winter panics, issuing an alert as she fears the entire operation is unraveling.
Elsewhere, Faber meets with Olivia Thatcher, who provides him with a trove of information. Convinced that Sam is being manipulated, Faber hopes her files will reveal the true mastermind.
Back on the train, passengers demand to know the identity of the “high-profile” criminal. Sam refuses to reveal it. Otto ultimately exposes the truth: the man in question killed Sam’s son.
The revelation shocks the passengers. Sam explains that the orchestrators of the hijacking have taken his son’s mother hostage, and the only way to save her is to continue with the exchange. Reluctantly, the passengers agree and restart the train. Sam contacts Winter, reassuring her that the situation is under control.
Murder, Deception, and MI5 Pressure
At the hunters’ cabin, the killers dispose of the officer’s body, placing it in a trunk and sending a text from his phone. Marsha hears the car lock chirp and walks down the road, passing the hunters who tease her about scaring off her “stalker.” She plays along, but one hunter realizes the officer’s keys are still in their possession. They rush after her.
The female hunter feigns injury and asks Marsha for help. Marsha lets them in.
Meanwhile, the baby’s mother discovers the hidden thumb drive inside the bottle.
At MI5, Danny interrogates Stuart Atterton, informing him of an imminent attempt to free John Bailey-Brown. Stuart denies any involvement.
The Killer Exposed and Bomb Countdown Begins
Back aboard the train, Petra, who previously advised Mei, warns that the killer remains among them. She identifies the woman who treated the drug-carrying passenger’s injury. The passengers seize her, discover the radio, and once again force Otto to stop the train.
Seeing the train halt a second time, Winter determines the mission is compromised and calls for an abort of the handoff.
Inside the car, panic erupts as the bombs arm themselves. The captured woman confesses she possesses the disarm codes and must input them every fifteen minutes to prevent detonation. Under mounting pressure, she provides the codes for all eight explosives.
The passengers manage to deactivate seven bombs. One remains armed in the final car.
Sam sprints through the train, urging everyone to move forward. He clears the final car just as the last bomb detonates.
