The first pictures of Mariah Carey have surfaced showing her in the upcoming Lee Daniels’ historical epic, The Butler.
Inspired by Wil Haygood’s Washington Post article, The Butler tells the story of an African-American man who served as a butler (Forest Whitaker) to eight Presidents in the White House for over thirty years. From this unique vantage point, the film traces the dramatic changes that swept American society, from the civil rights movement to Vietnam and beyond, and how those changes affected this man’s life and family.
Carey will play a slave named Hattie Pearl. This marks her third collaboration with Daniels. Earlier she starred in Tennessee and portrayed Mrs. Weiss in Precious, both of which Daniels produced.
The Butler stars Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, David Oyelowo, Liam Neeson, John Cusack, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda, Robin Williams, James Marsden, Aml Ameen and Liev Schreiber.
The Butler will open in theaters on August 12, 2013.
