Last year, director Andrew Dosunmu gave the indie community his dreamy drama, Restless City. He is back with his follow-up film, the poignant, Mother of George.
Dosunmu’s latest focuses on the circumstances after the joyous wedding between Adenike (Danai Gurira) and Ayodele (Isaach De Bankolé), a Nigerian couple living in Brooklyn, when martial complications arise out of their inability to conceive a child.
The problem devastates their family and defies cultural expectations, leading Adenike to make a shocking decision that could either save her family or destroy it. Dosunmu captures the nuances of this unique and fascinating culture by creating a beautiful, vibrant, and moving portrait of a couple whose joys and struggles are at once intimate and universal.
Mother of George also stars Yaya Decosta Alafia and Tony Okungbowa.
The film will received a limited release on September 13, 2013.
Sounds very interesting – cant wait to get my eyes on this.
I NEED to see this movie!!! As an African American Woman married to an African Man, I look for any deeper insight into African cultural dynamics that are available. This movie seems to hit the spot, heard about it on Tavis Smiley show tonight! The sad news is that we live in South Carolina and there are no showings of the film taking place near me. Please help us get it here!!!!!
