Jennifer Hudson and Terrence Howard are reunited in director Andrew Levitas’s directorial debut, Lullaby. Coming to theaters this Friday, a clip from the film has been released online.
The film tells the story of a 25-year old chain-smoking, emotionally shallow young man named Jonathan Lowenstein who is living in Los Angeles, estranged from his wealthy upper Eastside New York family. One day he gets the call that his father, Robert, who has been battling cancer off and on for ten years, has 36 hours to live. He immediately rushes to be at his father’s side in New York.
The film stars Garrett Hedlund (Country Strong), Richard Jenkins and Howard. It also features Jessica Brown Findlay, Anne Archer, Jennifer Hudson, Jessica Barden, and Amy Adams.
Despite boasting a cast featuring an Oscar winner and several Oscar nominees, Lullaby has remained way under the radar. The initial thought is that Levitas’ screenplay must have been very solid to attract so much talent but it appears that this soft, almost invisible release reeks of lack of faith in the finished product.
The last film that both Howard and Hudson starred in together, Winnie Mandela, met with similar challenges; here’s hoping this film can find an audience in a crowded summer release calendar.
Lullaby arrives in theaters this Friday, June 13, 2014.
