Over the past five years, four-time Black Reel Awards nominee Nicole Beharie has strategically advanced her career with some very wise and smart film choices. Her latest coup finds her toplining the new FOX fantasy, mystery drama, Sleepy Hollow.
Beharie stars as Detective Abbie Mills, who lost her original partner to mysterious circumstances and now teamed with Icabod Crane to stop the spread of evil in the small town of Sleepy Hollow.
Since her debut in American Violet, Beharie has been meticulous about the roles she’s selected and it has paid off as she has kept busy on both the small and big screen. After small roles in sports biopic, The Express and Shame, Beharie flexed her acting muscles in the lead of several films including indie favorites, My Last Day Without You (where she performed several songs in the film), Small of Her Back (now known as Apartment 4E), The Last Fall and Woman Thou Art Loosed: On the 7th Day.
Earlier this year, Beharie co-starred opposite newcomer Chadwick Boseman in the baseball biopic, 42, playing Rachel Robinson. Beharie’s portrayal of Mrs. Robinson provided a glimpse into the supporting home that she made for Jackie as he was going through hell on the baseball diamond.
But these days, the Julliard-trained Beharie is making her mark as an inquisitive detective investigating strange occurrences with her new partner from the past. Earlier this week, FOX announced that the show has been renewed for a second season, so it appears that Beharie will be busy chasing the undead – and being compensated for it quite nicely, as well!!!
