Tony-nominated actress Danielle Brooks sat down with TheFilmGordon to discuss taking on the iconic role of Sophie in the new adaptation of The Color Purple.
Brooks, a native of Augusta, Georgia, muses about how she is on a crusade to change the perception of plus-size actresses in Hollywood. She is best known for her roles as Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson on the comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black and Leota Adebayo on the superhero series Peacemaker.
She has also appeared in the HBO series Girls, Netflix’s Master of None, and the animated sitcom Close Enough. In 2021, she received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Television Movie as an executive producer on Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia.
