One week before the release of Nate Parker’s directorial debut, The Birth of A Nation, Fox Searchlight has released a new featurette highlighting the cast of women characters in the the film and the contributions to Nat Turner’s journey.
The studio has premiered a new featurette titled “Women of Rebellion,” in an effort to help contextualize his story. It also features a little footage not seen in the previously-released trailer.
Set against the background of the antebellum South, The Birth of A Nation story follows Turner, a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner, accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. After witnessing countless atrocities against fellow slaves, Nat devises a plan to lead his people to freedom.
Parker wrote, directed, produced and stars in the film playing Nat Turner. The rest of the cast includes Armie Hammer, Aja Naomi King, Jackie Earle Haley, Gabrielle Union, Mark Boone Jr. and Colman Domingo.
The Birth of A Nation opens nationwide on Friday, October 7, 2016.
