“Self-Tape” Puts Trevor Slattery Back in the Spotlight

Episode 2 of Wonder Man, titled “Self-Tape,” deepens the mystery surrounding Trevor Slattery while pushing Simon Williams closer to danger. As ambition, manipulation, and surveillance collide, the episode explores how far the MCU is willing to blur performance and reality.

Trevor Slattery Is Taken Into Custody

Trevor Slattery’s complicated MCU past resurfaces immediately. While flying back to the United States from Asia, Trevor strikes up a friendly conversation with a fellow passenger who recognizes him from an old hospital drama he once starred in alongside Joe Pantoliano. The casual nostalgia visibly unsettles him.

Moments later, as Trevor walks through the airport chatting with his new acquaintance, he is suddenly tackled and arrested by FBI agents. The woman quickly clarifies that she does not actually know him, leaving Trevor stunned.

Damage Control Makes Its Move

Trevor is taken into an interrogation room and questioned by Agent Cleary (Arian Moayed) of the Department of Damage Control. Trevor argues that he has already been arrested, tried, and sentenced for his past crimes. Cleary calmly reminds him that Trevor never completed his sentence, a detail Trevor insists was not his fault.

Rather than send him back to prison, Cleary offers a deal. Trevor will assist Damage Control in capturing Simon Williams. The plan begins by using Trevor as bait, luring Simon through a new audition for Wonder Man.

Simon’s Obsession Intensifies

Back in Los Angeles, Janelle confronts Simon after receiving calls from casting about an unauthorized Wonder Man audition. Simon admits he scheduled it himself and apologizes, but insists the role is too important to give up. Reluctantly, Janelle instructs him to behave, submit a self-tape to casting agent Ruth, and wait.

Simon spirals into obsessive preparation. He prints scripts, rehearses endlessly, and records take after take. Watching himself back only deepens his dissatisfaction. While scrolling through his phone, he finds an old video of Vivian helping him prepare for a past audition. The emotional weight triggers a surge of frustration. Objects in the apartment begin to tremble, and outside, an unseen energy pulse sets off a distant car alarm.

Trevor Becomes the Bait

Meanwhile, Trevor meets with Agent Cleary at a restaurant. Cleary begins to question whether using Trevor as bait is a mistake. That doubt is interrupted when Simon texts Trevor asking for help with his audition tape. Cleary outfits Trevor with a discreet body camera and a tracking ring designed to collect data once placed on Simon’s computer.

Trevor goes to Simon’s apartment, but Simon insists they leave, saying the space feels emotionally “bad” after his breakup. They attempt to record the audition at a tape rental shop called Ahoy Tapes, but the shop owner, contractually obligated to read lines, proves incapable of doing so. Frustrated, they leave.

With no options left, Trevor makes a call and arranges access to Joe Pantoliano’s home.

An Uncomfortable Reunion

Simon is starstruck upon meeting Pantoliano, while Trevor remains tense. The visit quickly turns uncomfortable when Trevor accuses Pantoliano of stealing the lead role on their old hospital series. Pantoliano calmly reminds him that Trevor once asked him to take the role, fearing the pressure would be too much. Though Trevor remembers, the exchange leaves Simon shaken. They leave after Pantoliano dismissively suggests Trevor’s career is long over.

The Self-Tape and a Hidden Secret

Back at Simon’s apartment, they finally record the audition tape. Satisfied, Simon steps into the bathroom and casually suggests ordering pizza. Alone, Trevor removes the tracking ring and slips it onto Simon’s laptop as files begin downloading.

While waiting, Trevor pulls a sheet off one wall and discovers a massive hole hidden behind it. When Simon returns and notices the disturbance, Trevor deflects by recommending pepperoni pizza. Simon agrees and leaves to place the order, allowing Trevor to quietly retrieve the ring.

Closing Thoughts

“Self-Tape” strengthens the uneasy bond between Trevor and Simon, but it is built entirely on deception. As Trevor gathers intelligence and Simon’s powers continue to surface, the episode raises an inevitable question. What happens when Simon learns the truth about Trevor’s role in his life?

Guest Starring as Himself: Joe Pantoliano
