Ambition, Exposure, and Consequences Collide
A celebratory night spirals into a dangerous collision of ambition, exposure, and gunfire as Simonโs Wonder Man dream comes within reach at the worst possible moment in Episode 5 of Wonder Man.
A Night of Promise and Anxiety
Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery celebrate their Wonder Man callback at El Capitan, buoyed by the improbable reality that they have advanced this far among hundreds of hopefuls. Trevor revels in the moment, savoring the victory. Simon, predictably, spirals. With no lines to prepare, he fixates on what is at stake, convinced it would be catastrophic to come this close and lose the role.
Sensing Simonโs anxiety spike, Trevor guides him through a breathing exercise, successfully grounding him. When Trevorโs phone rings yet again, he silences it without answering.
Damage Control Tightens the Net
Elsewhere, Agent Cleary leaves a pointed voicemail for Slattery, questioning his recent silence. The call is interrupted when the Director of the Department of Damage Control enters Clearyโs office, praising his dedication and pointedly reminding him how indispensable he is. Cleary insists he is in the homestretch and expects to close the case soon.
An Alleyway Confrontation
Back at the restaurant, Trevor orders drinks, only to be confronted by a man who recognizes him. Trevor does not remember the man, but the feeling is not mutual. Flanked by three armed associates, the man forces Simon and Trevor into a nearby alley at gunpoint. He reveals himself to be a drug dealer Trevor owes a significant debt to.
The situation escalates quickly until Simon snaps into action, using his powers to incapacitate the men with brutal efficiency. In the aftermath, Simon admits how much he hates using his abilities in public, knowing it could end his acting career. Trevor reassures him that no one saw. At the far end of the alley, however, a kid on a scooter wearing a GoPro records everything before speeding off. Simon and Trevor give chase, but the kid disappears.
The Chase and the Footage
Now in Trevorโs car, the two scour the streets of Los Angeles until Trevor spots the kid again. Simon pursues him aggressively, even mounting the sidewalk. During the chase, Trevorโs phone lights up repeatedly with calls from โUncle Vanya,โ his coded name for Cleary, followed by an email.
Simon urges him to ignore it, but the message is from Janelle. She has sent a scene from Wonder Man in which Barnaby betrays the hero after โfinding his price.โ Simon pulls over to read it.
As Trevor looks up, he sees the kid standing calmly in a driveway, waiting.
A Deal Is Struck
Simon gives chase once more, with Trevor lagging behind. The kid leads them into a club, where he finally sits down and introduces himself as Jayden (Brandon Wardell). He offers a deal. Simon helps him recover his stolen bike from a man named Esteban, and in return, Jayden hands over the incriminating footage.
Trevor does not trust him, but Simon agrees, seeing no other option.
Jayden leads them to Estebanโs house and points out the bike. His plan is simple: confront Esteban and demand it back. Simon suggests posing as undercover cops, but the ruse collapses immediately when the woman answering the door recognizes Trevor as the Mandarin.
Inside, Esteban (Carlito Olivero) is bagging chamoy candy and insists Jayden is lying, claiming he wants back into the candy business.
Chaos Erupts
The situation deteriorates further when the drug dealer from earlier arrives, yanking Jayden out of the car at gunpoint. A neighbor witnesses the weapon and quickly retreats. The dealer bangs on the door, threatening to kill Jayden unless Slattery comes outside.
Trevor realizes Jayden has not uploaded the footage yet and orders him to slide the GoPro through the mail slot. Trevor deletes the video on the spot.
Police sirens cut through the standoff. Officers arrive and order the dealer to drop his weapon. In the chaos, Jayden slips back inside the house, where he and Esteban reconcile.
At the same time, Janelle calls Simon. Hearing the commotion, she asks what is happening, but Simon deflects. She then drops the real bombshell. Von Kovak is leaving town, and the callback is happening right now.
Gunfire erupts outside. Everyone bolts out the back door. Simon and Trevor race to the car, and Trevor speeds away at full throttle.
Closing Thoughts
In an episode heavy with foreshadowing, the bond between Simon and Trevor continues to deepen as Simon grows more comfortable sharing who and what he is. It is hard to ignore the parallels between Barnaby and Wonder Man, and Trevor and Simon. Whether coincidence or design, the alignment feels deliberate and increasingly dangerous.
