Hot off the success of Scandal, Kerry Washington’s next project will keep her in the political arena. The celebrated fixer will portray Anita Hill in the upcoming HBO drama, Confirmation.
Washington will star and executive produce the telepic, which will detail the explosive 1991 Clarence Thomas – Hill Supreme Court nomination hearings, which brought the country to a standstill and forever changed the way people think about sexual harassment, victims’ rights and modern-day race relations.
Written by Oscar-nominated writer Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich), sources indicate that Dope director, Rick Famuyiwa (The Wood) is in talks to direct the film, but no deal is in place.
Confirmation comes as Washington was poised to film the feature drama, Unforgettable in the summer for director Amma Asante. Plans could change and the HBO project may take precedent over the Asante film.
