The trailer for one of the fall’s most under-the-radar anticipated releases, Moonlight, has been released online and the first impression is that the film looks formidable and is the strongest work from writer/director Barry Jenkins since Medicine for Melancholy .
Based on the play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue by Tarell Alvin McCraney, the film is set in 1980s War on Drugs era Miami, which focuses on three different time periods of a man named Chiron, as he battles a rough home life and his dawning sexuality.
Moonlight stars Trevante Rhodes, Naomie Harris, Andre Holland, and Mahershala Ali.
The film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. It will also screen at the New York Film Festival.
Moonlight is scheduled to be released on October 21, 2016.
