Despite fighting the good fight, the viewing audience voted with their remotes and the final tally is game over for The Player.

The perpetually low-rated Las Vegas-set crime thriller focused on Philip Winchester as a man coerced into taking part in an elaborate high-stakes game where the exceedingly wealthy gamble on criminal activity. Wesley Snipes also stars as the overly slick figure overseeing that operation.

Although the show got off the a strong start, the handwriting was on the wall when NBC has trimmed the episode order to nine from thirteen. It also suffered when fans found some episodes too for fans to follow. Critics were also harsh claiming that the pilot might set a record in terms of the amount of time spent trying to explain the rules of the show.

Even with The Blacklist as a lead-in, audiences tuned the show out. For Snipes fans, don’t fret – you can see him in the upcoming Spike Lee satire, Chi-Raq opening on December 4.

The final episode of The Player airs tonight on NBC.
