Reel Reviews | My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2

maxresdefault

Fourteen years after the original film, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, snuck up on the industry grossing $200 million, the long-awaited sequel finally arrives in theaters. Giving fans of the first film more of the same, this tedious and dull sequel will be hard pressed to not just to duplicate their earlier success but to find an audience in an over-crowded cinema landscape.

Parenting and marriage have become tougher and tougher for Toula (Nia Vardalos) and her husband Ian (John Corbett). Not only has their relationship lost some of its spark, but they’re also dealing with a rebellious teenage daughter, Paris (Elena Kampouris), who clashes with Greek traditions. On top of that, Toula must contend with aging parents, Maria and Gus (Lainie Kazan and Michael Constantine) and the endless needs of cousins and friends. When a shocking family secret comes to light, the entire Portokalos clan makes plans to come together for an even bigger wedding than before.

Grade: D
