Director Justin Kurzel and actress Jurnee Smollett talk about their involvement in this story which revolves around an FBI agent who goes after a white supremacist terrorist group known as the Order that was active in the United States in the 1980s.
The Australian director’s films include Snowtown, Macbeth, Assassin’s Creed, True History of the Kelly Gang, and Nitram. Kurzel shares his desire to make films here in this country and how this film parallels current events.
With over three decades in the business, Smollett has been acting since she could walk. She began her career as a child actress, appearing in television sitcoms such as On Our Own and Full House. Her breakout role came in Kasi Lemmons’s independent film Eve’s Bayou, earning her a Critics’ Choice Movie Award.
As an adult, Smollett has starred in notable films, including The Great Debaters, Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, and Birds of Prey. Her television work includes roles in the NBC sports drama Friday Night Lights, the WGN America period drama Underground, and the HBO fantasy horror series True Blood and Lovecraft Country. Her performance in Lovecraft Country earned her a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
