Oscar-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg will re-team with celebrated author Terry McMillan to star in the adaptation of McMillan’s novel, A Day Late and a Dollar Short for the Lifetime Channel.
The film follows Viola Price (Goldberg), who learns she is months from death. Resolved to sort out all of her family’s issues before she passes on, she sets out to correct the mistakes of each of her four children – which include teen pregnancy, prescription drug addiction, and jail time. She also has to rescue her estranged husband from a younger woman.
Goldberg, the recipient of an Academy Award, Golden Globe, Emmy, Grammy, and a Tony Award, will also executive produce the TV movie adaptation of the bestselling novel by the author of Waiting to Exhale andHow Stella Got Her Groove Back. Goldberg’s no stranger to McMillan’s work — she starred opposite Angela Bassett in the 1998 big-screen adaptation of How Stella Got Her Groove Back.
The film starts production this summer and will premiere on Lifetime in 2014.
