Several months ago, producer Tyler Perry announced that he would be ending his relationship with Turner’s TBS and would be partnering with Oprah Winfrey’s OWN. The first product of that relationship is the new series, The Haves and the Have Nots, premiering on May 28.
Perry’s Downton Abby-esque drama that follows the complicated dynamic between the rich and powerful Cryer family and the hired help who work in their opulent mansion set in Savannah, Georgia. The series will star John Schneider and Sparkle’s Tiki Sumpter.
Based on Perry’s 2011 play, the show will be written, directed and produced by him and produced by Tyler Perry Studio and will be the first scripted series on Oprah Winfrey’s channel.
Perry has created three previous shows, Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, Meet the Browns and Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse. He is also creating another sitcom titled, Love Thy Neighbor, a spinoff of House of Payne featuring the character Floyd that will also premiere on OWN.
