Conversations | Exhibiting Forgiveness

by Tim Gordon

On the latest episode of Conversations, we talk with several cast members, including Andra Day, John Earl Jelks, and director Titus Kaphar from the powerful drama Exhibiting Forgiveness.

Primarily honing his craft in theatre, Tony Award-nominated actor Jelks discusses his powerful performance as Laron in the film. We discuss how his upbringing helped him influence his performance and what forgiveness means to him.

Making his directorial debut, contemporary painter and storyteller, Kaphar’s deeply personal film explores the effect of transferred trauma and its impact on the next generation. Kaphar discusses the genesis of his story, including his relationship with his father and how that experience helped shape and later heal him with this film.

Finally, Oscar-nominated actress and singer, Andra Day returns to share her impressions including her perspectives on her character’s struggle with loving someone immersed in trauma and how after portraying several complex characters it was time for “a break.”
