Singleton Helms “Billions”

The second season of Showtime’s wildly popular drama, Billions continues it’s run of successful directors as Oscar-nominated filmmaker John Singleton directs the latest episode of the show.

The show is loosely based on the activities of crusading federal prosecutor of financial crimes Preet Bharara, the former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and his legal battles with hedge fund manager Steve Cohen of SAC Capital.

Created by Brian Koppelman, David Levien, and Andrew Ross Sorkin, Billions showcases the battle between Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Damien Lewis) the high-lord of the uber-successful hedge fund juggernaut Axe Capital and U.S. Attorney, Charles “Chuck” Rhodes (Paul Giamatti).

The main cast consists of Maggie Siff as Wendy Rhoades, M.D, psychiatrist, in-house performance coach at Axe Capital and wife of Chuck Rhoades; Malin Åkerman as Lara Axelrod, wife of Bobby Axelrod and a former nurse; Toby Leonard Moore as Bryan Connerty, Rhoades’ point man; David Costabile as Mike “Wags” Wagner, the right-hand man for Axelrod and COO of Axe Capital; and Condola Rashād as Kate Sacker, an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York.

Singleton will direct Episode 207, entitled “Victory Lap.” He joins other high-profile directors that have helmed the show including Noah Emmerich, Kayrn Kusama, Michael Cuesta, and Alex Gibney. In addition, Singleton’s current show, Rebel airs on BET. In 1993, he became the youngest person in Academy Awards history to be nominated for Best Director when he was honored for his debut film, Boyz ‘N the Hood.

Billions airs Sunday night at 10pm on Showtime.
