The casting carousel continues with news this afternoon that Ving Rhames (Mission Impossible franchise) has signed on for a comedic role in an upcoming ABC buddy comedy.

Rhames, known for his gruff-tough exterior on film, will co-star in an untitled NBA buddy comedy pilot, which focuses on Mo (Blondy Baruti), an NBA rookie who doesn’t speak English, and a translator (Skylar Astin) who doesn’t speak basketball. Rhames will play the team’s confident and smooth general manager.

The series will be written/executive produced by Casey Johnson and David Windsor and executive produced by Galavant creator Dan Fogelman, Mandalay Sports Media’s Peter Guber & Mike Tollin and Kapital Entertainment’s Aaron Kaplan.

The six-time Black Reel Award nominee will next appear in the upcoming film, Mission: Impossible 5, which opens on July 31, 2015.
