On the latest episode of Reel Reviews, we discuss Outside the Wire, a science-fiction film directed by Mikael Håfström. It stars Anthony Mackie (who also serves as a producer on the film) as an android officer who works with a drone pilot (Damson Idris) to stop a global catastrophe.
Hafstrom’s screenplay blends in standard battle content mixed with The Usual Suspects-esque elements which produce an entertaining story that works because of the work of both Mackie and Idris. Outside the Wire reminds me, from an action standpoint of last summer’s Netflix breakout hit, The Old Guard, as a pleasant surprise. While Mackie gives his standard all-around solid performance, Idris is the one to watch and it is wonderful to experience his star-making growth in front of our eyes.
