Luther Returns In September

Idris

It has been a GOOD week for Idris Elba. Earlier this week, the poster for his upcoming film, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom was released and his new Pacific Rim trailer has been posted online and now the news that his BBC series, Luther is set to return this September.

The news was announced in a tweet from BBC One, the channel that airs the series in the UK.

What surprises should we expect for Season Three? Elba has previously indicated that two or three new characters may be introduced, perhaps a villain to that will present a huge challenge for the Chief Inspector.

Unfortunately, it appears that the riveting storyline featuring Alice may either be minimized or discontinued for the upcoming season. Reportedly, she may re-emerge if a feature film is done, but we’ll have to wait and see.

In preparation for a potential feature film, his character will be closer to retirement, which sets up the possibility this season that much like Bruce Wayne in the Dark Knight facing off against the Joker, that Luther will face his most formidable foe who pushes him to his limits forcing him out – and straight to the big screen.

Castmembers Warren Brown, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Dermot Crowley and Michael Smiley will all assume their past roles. Guest stars this season will include Orlessa Altass, Lucian Msamati and Ned Dennehy.

Elba will star in two of the year’s biggest films, one this summer and the other Oscar bait for the fall. Elba is on the cusp of superstardom!
